During my time working on the adidas Originals Facebook page -- client and agency side -- it grew from 1.3m to 21m fans.

Celebrating 3 million Facebook Fans (2009)
In order to celebrate reaching 3 million Facebook Fans we invited Snoop Dogg to the adidas office in Amsterdam for a live Q&A session. Via Livestream on our Facebook fan page, fans were able to ask questions that Snoop Dogg answered in real time. This was the first interactive livestream the brand as well as the category had ever seen.
Instagram Facebook tab (2010)
When introducing the new Instagram channel to the adidas Originals digital ecosystem a tab had been created that pulled in all pictures with #adidasoriginals. A simple way to give exposure to our fans and one of the first UGC activations in the marketplace.
Originals Cover tool (2010)
To be prepared for Facebook's introduction of a new cover image on users wall, we created an interactive tool that gave our fans the opportunity to design their own personal cover image in Originals style.
Celebrating 15 million Facebook Fans (2011)
When hitting the mark of 15 million Facebook fans, adidas Originals wanted to thank the members of our community in an innovative and original way while intriguing others to join the community.
Once we hit the 15 million mark, we released a series of mosaics of sorts. By taking Originals visuals and recreating these with the profile pics of our fans, they literally became part of our brand. Users could zoom in and out using the google maps API to find themselves and their friends.
For 15 days, we released a new image every day, encouraging fans to keep looking for themselves. The more they interacted (liked, shared, commented), the more likely they were to appear on the next mosaic.
Four loyal fans where selected and given a place in the cover photo spotlight and a special personal thank you from the brand.
